INDIAN POLICE INDEPENDENCE MEDAL 1950

This medal was awarded to all the members of the Indian Police force who were serving on 26th Jan 1950, the date on which India was declared a Republic. The medal, unfortunately misnamed (it has nothing to do with Indian Independence), was awarded as a token of recognition of the magnificent manner in which the police forces had borne unprecedented strain during the days of Partition and thereafter.
